About Omar

Omar Alexander is the embodiment of the U.S Latin music artist virtuoso. Born on New York soil to a Colombian mother and an Indian father, Omar Alexander represents the fluid cultural mix of contemporary America, and manages to translate that same international cosmic blend into his music - which marries a smart, alternative Latin sensibility to a no nonsense booty-shaking funk. His performance style resonates with audiences both young and old. Omar hails from the recent influential wave of U.S., Latin and first generation immigrant artists, who grew up experiencing a mix of American, Latin and World music cultures. His songs reflect aspects of all these popular styles.

Omar Alexander's powerful, soulful, rough, melodic gypsy-like voice (developed from his lifelong exposure to his father's "Hindu devotional music" and mother's "musica llanera Colombiana") can be felt in his own brand of poignant poetry and vast lyrical concepts.

Omar Alexander's sound is a driving, percussive mash-up of sultry guitars, propulsive drumming, and tighter- than-tight horns that come together to ignite dance floors and bedrooms alike.

If you can imagine an underground jam session with Seal, Stevie Wonder, Gypsy Kings, Terence Trent Darby, Santana and Arturo Sandoval all sitting in, then you have a small taste of Omar Alexander's musical style & capabilities.

Omar Alexander has created an ensemble of artists who have shared stages and studios with a host of rock, jazz, Latin and R&B greats, including: Maceo Parker, Bruce Springsteen, Slash, Jose Alberto El Canario, Norah Jones, Jorge Moreno, Groove Collective, Alejandro Fernandez, DLG, Will Lee, Frankie Negron, Bobby Sanabria, Gerardo Velez (Chic, Spyro Gyra, The Band of Gypsies), Victor Manuelle, Tito Rojas, La India, Gloria Estefan and Antibalas.

Omar Alexander performed for the 4th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards Viewing Party; and has also been covered by outlets including CBS, Telemundo/NBC, Urban Latino, Time Out New York, Latino Mix and Radio WADO.

Upon reviewing Omar's music and songwriting talent, one feels as if a powerful statement is being made. As Omar explains, "I want my music to be meaningful to people. When I write and sing, it is as if I'm taking my very last breath to share a passionate and beautiful emotion with my audience. I want to be spiritually connected to those who listen to my music. Each one of my songs represents to me how I would like to be remembered as a human being".
