SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT: Omar performs at the legendary
The album name was chosen by Alexander because it represents individuals with a mixed racial background – primarily those coming from indigenous regions of South America and European/Spanish descent. As Omar explains, "I wanted to capture the musical essence of my American, Colombian and Indian influences in a way that artistically represents my organic soul. Mestizo, for me, combines a modern sound with old school musical traditions – something that I hold dear because of my ancestry. I want people to know that I understand the social and cultural connotations of my artistic being." Two of the stand-out tracks at this point are, "Remember Love" and "Speak Out". The former has a melodic reggae style vocal with traditional Latin percussive sounds. The ladder, Speak Out, is an uplifting "Latin Funk" jam where Omar incorporates a gospel choir to join him in singing the chorus of the song. As Omar explains, "It was something that happened accidentally actually. I heard this great song by a group called, Carolina Liar. That song basically has the same melody throughout – where a gospel choir enhances the main hook towards the end. I told the engineer that I would love that vibe on my track. As it turns out, he was about to record a track for a gospel choir the very next day and asked them if they would be interested in recording with me– so it was pure coincidence that I had the awesome pleasure of having them on my record." Most of the musicians accompanying Omar in the studio are the finest in Miami and Los Angeles. Guitarist Alejandro Garcia has played and recorded with the likes of Shakira, Ricky Martin, and Chayanne. His multi-layered rhythms and melodies enhance Omar's music with an aggressively danceable groove. Drummer Kevin Abanto, originally from Peru, has played in some of the best Latin Jazz groups in Miami. His precision and experience give Omar's music the "power in the pocket" back-beat that his style exudes. Bassist, Ricardo Martinez from Venezuela, is one of the most sought after studio professionals in the city. He has performed and recorded with various Grammy Award winning Latin artists and has continued to rock the music industry for the last two decades. No date has yet been set for Mestizo's release; but in the meantime, don't forget that Omar's previous release (Omar Alexander) is still being discovered by fans all over the world! Be sure to listen to his entire discography as you wait patiently for Mestizo! |
